Adrenaline Rush in Northam

Northam is a picturesque town that hosts some adrenaline racing fun.

Northam is in the heart of the beautiful Avon Valley less than 100km from Perth.

Surrounded by rolling hills and spectacular golden canola fields, Northam is a quaint, picturesque town situated on the pristine Avon River. Surely this is the perfect place for retiring and making the peaceful tree change you have always wanted? But did you know that Northam has an extreme side? This is a location that offers a whole lot more than you first thought! Northam caters for the more adventurous who are looking for a heart racing weekend experience.

Northam offers an exhilarating escape from Perth City life and Hot Air Ballooning is just one of the many activities in Northam that will get your heart racing. You can test your nerve for adventure sports in many ways like white water rafting, sky diving or even paragliding.

Northam is also the starting line for the world famous Avon Descent which takes place on the 6th and 7th of August. International, National and State competitors begin the grueling race through white water and marathon flats in a two-day time trial in both paddle and power craft.

Spectators can enjoy action on the water from riverbank events with race commentary, free entertainment and the Avon River Festival Friday 5th August at Bernard Park.

If extreme sports aren’t for you there are more relaxing things to do. Follow 41 Mile Road to reach the river and step across Australia’s longest suspension bridge to photograph the nation’s only flock of white swans.

Plus, Northam is a town with great family friendly activities all year round including many walk trails, Northam Railway Museum, Historic Morby Cottage and several bus tours leaving from the Northam Visitor’s Centre.

Northam is home to a number of public facilities that include a library, hospital, senior citizens’ centre, recreation centre, three major sporting grounds and an Olympic size swimming pool. Northam also has a Senior High School, the CY O`Connor College of TAFE, Muresk Institute of Agriculture (division of Curtin University), three Primary Schools and St Joseph`s School, which provides education to Year 10.
